From November 11th to 15th, 2019, Panama City became the wedding capital of the world when it was visited by worldwide wedding planners. These professionals participated in Belief Retreat, a mastermind event organized by Belief Wedding Creators, a digital platform that unites wedding planners around the world and offers them tools to grow their businesses.

The event was held at American Trade Hotel and its main focus was to talk about business and self-improvement. “We talk a lot about trust in our own work as wedding planners, how to face competition, networking and connection with other professionals from different countries,” says Giovana Duailibe, CEO of Belief Wedding Creators.

The host wedding planner of the event was Judy Amado de Mendez, expert in weddings and special events, Panamanian, owner of the first event organization company in Panama. Additionally, she holds the position of General Manager of the American Trade Hotel. “I am happy to have these incredible wedding creators from different countries in our American Trade Hotel and to be a‘ Beliefer’, ”says Judy Amado de Mendez.

The main objective of the Belief Retreat is to create a transformative experience for all participants. With many different activities, wedding planners shared knowledge and discussed strategies to improve their businesses in 2020. They have also known Panamanian culture and wedding vendors in Panama.

What makes it different from other conferences for wedding professionals is its format. To make it more relevant and welcoming, Belief Retreat does not have famous speakers. The people who share knowledge are the members of the community themselves.

During the event, there was a dynamic called “Hot Seat”. “Wedding planners asked questions about difficult situations for wedding professionals (they could identify themselves or not) and we discussed them in groups,” says Giovana.

“The result of this event was very interesting. Professionals exchanged experiences and some are already working together with couples from different countries. Our event is much more than a congress. They shared real experiences about issues such as family work and family business succession, different businesses models for wedding planners, benefit sharing, costs and values, extra income opportunities, fears and mentality for entrepreneurs, ”says Giovana Duailibe.

Two + Us: Charity wedding for a couple in need

On the last day of the Belief Retreat, wedding planners and some Panamanian vendors organized a charity wedding. All professionals donated their products and services to make the dream of a Panamanian couple come true. This project is named Two + Us and it has already been carried out in four other countries: Mexico, Italy, El Salvador and Portugal. In all its editions, the project celebrates the love of a couple who wishes to get married, but has no financial conditions to do so.

At this edition, the chosen couple was Yaibis and Manuel. “They have been together for 12 years and have 3 daughters. The wedding planner Judy Amado interviewed several people to choose this couple.Their desire to get married was true and genuine, ”says Giovana Duailibe.

Yaibis is Kuna and has participated in the CAPTA project of Fundación Calicanto. Today, she is dedicated to taking care of the three daughters of 11, 9 and 4 years, while Manuel works as a gardener.

“I think it was a blessing from God. We wanted to get married for a while, but it was not possible because of the lack of money. With this blessing we have been able to get married and we are very happy. We chose the way of the Lord and we have always sought to be in three: the man, the woman and God in the middle, ”says Yaibis.

For Manuel, it was important to marry as his parents did. “They got married in 1992 and it was a wedding that I have never forgotten, I would always like to get married like them. It is a memory of value to me, ”he concludes.
